The Umass Lowell Chamber Singers, Fall 2020, under the direction of Jonathan Richter, perform Manuel Ponce’s Lejos de Ti, arranged by UML Alumni Chris Rubén Winters. Students recorded audio tracks into Soundtrap, a web based DAW, and then files were exported and mixed in Garageband by Mark Andrews.

Each performer recorded their own parts; Anthony Adario collected, edited and mixed them.

As an excuse to play with a new “toy” (a 360-degree action camera), John Shirley shot and edited the video. John is the Founding Director of the ensemble, and coordinator of the Composition for New Media program.

This was a socially distanced project, shot completely outdoors and utilizing a green screen and a warped perspective camera making players look much closer together than they were.

Born Under a Bad Sign was recorded and made famous by Albert King. The lyrics are by William Bell and the music by Booker T. Jones (Stax Records bandleader).
