Andrew Marshall on the 20th season of The Voice

Andrew Marshall (@awmmusic) is a Senior studying Music Business, and credits @umasslowell music program with offering him the necessary tools, opportunities, and experiences to develop his talent and eventually be a contestant on “The Voice” (@nbcthevoice).

It was through musical theater at his high school, Masconomet Regional High School, in his hometown of Boxford, MA, that he really became passionate about music. When it came to his career, he was unsure about whether he would proceed with music in college or choose another path.

One day at school, a friend of his pointed out that his eyes were yellow. He headed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with leukemia, and received treatment for the next three years.

After his diagnosis, he began to search for meaning through music and instantly connected to John Mayer’s songs. Marshall believes the most impactful moment of his whole journey was being able to meet @johnmayer, which was made possible through The Make-A-Wish Foundation (@makeawishamerica). He recalls Mayer was extremely supportive and interested in his music, encouraging him to fully pursue it.

Today, Marshall attends The University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he is active in numerous activities including Music and Entertainment Industry Students Association (MEISA) (@umlmeisa) and participating in events like The annual Mothers of Rock benefit for Girls Inc. of Lowell. Marshall believes the connections he has made with professors and students have helped him tremendously.
“The connections are so unique, I don’t know if I would have had those if I decided to attend a different school.”

Andrew Marshall is currently on the 20th season of NBC’s show, “The Voice”, where he performed “Gravity” by John Mayer, and has become a contestant on Nick Jonas’ team.
